The Volcano Sleeps

Like my sculpture "After the Eruption" this one was inspired by looking into the caldera of the 11,250 foot Irazu Volcano in Costa Rica, which erupted in 1994 and 1963. There you can imagine the awesome violence as you stand at the rim, looking at great fractures in the earth, now peaceful, surrounding the deep, steaming crater. It is a beautiful, desolate place. These sculptures are about hidden beauty and hidden danger. And they accurately represent the appearance of Irazu.
