I created this sculpture by thinking of a draped figure as a mountain, instead of the other way around, as most of the "Mountain Women" have been conceived. The figure, like a volcano about to erupt, has a seething, unsettled tension: earth tremors, perhaps, before a volcanic event. Part of that feeling comes from the woman's arched back, stirred by her dream, and the rapid rhythm of folds in the draping.
