The Sentinels

Here, a man in coat and tie (or it could be a lab coat) representing modern civilization as he holds two denizens of the rainforest: a resplendent quetzal and a heliconia plant. It asks: are we the protectors of nature, or, does nature play the role of canary-in-the-coal-mine acting as our early-warning guardian?

This sculpture was commissioned by Leidos for it’s new corporate headquartes in Reston, Virginia. It points to the Leidos “Commitment to the Planet” philosophy. The sculpture also ties in with the Leidos role in national defense, harmful materials detection, environmental cleanup and monitoring, and vehicle inspection.
