Remembering: El Zurqui

This is my portrait of El Zurqui (pronounced soor-KEE), a mountain in Costa Rica named after a tragic, Indian hero myth of lost love and a princess turned into butterflies. Its steep, cloud-forested, slopes were deeply chasmed and almost always hidden by mists.  The sculpture strongly suggests the forms and colors of the actual mountain; and the pose, the tragedy of the myth.  It has reminded some of a Martha Graham dance performance.
