Deep in the mountains

One of my bronze "Mountain Women" sculptures, this series of figures was inspired by a mountain in Costa Rica that reminded me of a reclining woman, which gave me a "Eureka!" moment:  I should sculpt the mountain as a woman!  The sculptures give me both realism (a figure) and abstraction (the arranging of the draping) to work with within the same composition.  This one I thought of first as a figure and then sculpted it as mountains. It has a feeling of calm and repose and, perhaps, distance. The deeper recesses seem cave-like and lend a subtle air of mystery.
